Continuing last weeks theme, this weeks tip is another late carreer highlight, this time for The Afghan Whigs. Their mid-90 albums Gentlemen and Black Love remain highlights in my collection: they are heavy without the lack of emotional connection that I felt to many grunge albums from that period. But in reality I don’t listen to many records from the 90’s these days. This in contrary to albums from the 80’s which are still in frequent rotation.
Enter Soft Control, the 4th album since they re-united some years ago. It doesn’t happen a lot these days, but the sheer intensity of some of these songs give me goosebumps. I also love the artwork on this album. Highly recommended, and I’m gonna give the old CD’s a spin again in the coming weeks.
Recommended tracks: almost all of them.
