And now for something completely different.
For this week I wanted to make the latest (final?) Foetus album Halt the weekly tip. This came out at the end of 2025, the vinyl arrived at my doorstep all the way from New York last week. But as it’s not on any of the streaming services, I’m reverting to my first introduction to his music, and still the Foetus album I like most: Nail.
JG Thirlwell rose to fame in the 80’s alternative scene with his many Foetus projects, and especially the albums Hole and Nail were ranked high in year-end list in those days in both the UK and The Netherlands. First hearing this industrial style music was a revelation to me, and I collected a large number of records from Thirlwell’s various projects. By now Nail sounds quite dated, but at the time it was a major influence to bands like Nine Inch Nails. It’s also one of the few artists my wife really can’t handle, so I’m allowed to listen to it when she’s out or through headphones :-(.
